An ignition coil, for a spark ignition system, includes a hollow casing (11) closed at one end by a base (12) and closed at its opposite end by an electrically insulating cap (13) carrying at least the high voltage output terminal of the coil, primary and secondary windings within the casing (11), an annular resilient sealing gasket (17) trapped between mutually presented faces of the casing (11) and the cap (13) to seal the interface of the casing (11) and the cap (13), and, the casing having adjacent said gasekt (17), at least one localised region (22) so shaped as to provide a weak point in the seal effected by the gasket (17) between the casing and the cap, whereby when the pressure within the casing exceeds a predetermined value the sealing action at said weak point fails so relieving the excess pressure in the casing.

Well, a high-voltage output terminal and two low-voltage leads for secondary and primary windings, respectively, housed in the inner housing, and an annular sealing gasket, located between the protrusion of the flange of the cylindrical body and the electrically insulating lid pads.
Figure 1 shows an ignition coil, side view; in Fig.2 a section aa in Fig.1.
As can be seen from FIG. 1 and 2, the ignition coil is formed by a hollow cylindrical body with a bottom at one end. The coil body is made of aluminum by, for example, extrusion or from another metal. The other end of the cylindrical body 1 is provided with a flange 2, into which an electrically insulating cover 3, made of synthetic resin, is inserted. Cover 3 is equipped with a high-voltage output 4 of the secondary winding and low-voltage outputs 5 of the primary winding; The windings are located inside the hollow cylindrical body I. Between the electrically insulating cover 3 and the protrusion 6 of the flange 2 of the cylindrical body 1 there is an annular seal seal 7, made, for example, of oil-resistant rubber. The cylindrical surface of the housing 1, in this case the surface of the flange 2 of the housing 1, is provided with a hole 8 located against the Forza annular sealing gasket 7.
The ignition coil in the electronic system works in the usual manner as described above. However, when the elements of the switch fails, which are amplitude and duration current of the primary winding of the ignition coil, the primary winding and oil heat up inside the latter, which causes an increase in pressure inside the coil housing 1.
At the same time, the opening 8 predetermines the place where the seal will break due to the increase in pressure. Loosening of the seal in
the hole 8 (between the lid and the housing) eliminates the explosive failure of the ignition coil, since as the pressure rises to a certain value inside the coil, the excess pressure will be expelled into the atmosphere (possibly with oil) through the gap between the gasket 7, the protrusion 6 and hole B, thus releasing the excess pressure inside the body 1 of the ignition coil.
When mounting such an ignition coil, it is advisable for security reasons that the hole 8 is
